Press release from EGPD

ELK GROVE , CA – On Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 2:24 a.m., the Elk Grove Police Department responded to a shots fired call in the 8700 block of Halverson Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered that 19-year-old Mario Rosales had been grazed by pellets fired from a shotgun and the suspects involved had fled. The injuries Rosales suffered were non-life threatening and he was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.

Elk Grove Police Department Detectives and members of the Street Crimes Unit responded to the location and began interviewing witnesses to the incident. Information was developed that lead Detectives to believe that those persons responsible for the shooting were at a residence in the Meadowview area of Sacramento. This afternoon, Detectives responded to a residence in the 7700 block of Mary Lou Way in an effort to locate the suspects responsible for the shooting. Upon arrival, several of the occupants inside the residence ran from Detectives as they were attempting to make contact. Detectives were able to detain several individuals who were brought in for questioning.

Based on information obtained during the investigation, Detectives arrested Rudy Kirby (30), Marcelino Castillo (19) and a 17-year-old male juvenile for attempted murder with a gang enhancement (664/187 and 186.22 Penal Code). Detectives recovered a weapon that may have been used in the shooting. A fourth individual, Robert Lacy (27), was arrested for a parole violation. Photos of the individuals arrested will not be released at this time.

At this point, Detectives believe that the shooting may have been gang-related. Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to call the Elk Grove Police Department Communications Center at (916) 714-5115 or the Elk Grove Police Department Detectives Bureau at (916) 478-8060.
