Hume promises to file amended statement

Elk Grove Mayor Sophia Scherman filed an amended Statement of Economic Interests statement yesterday with the Elk Grove City Clerk office.

The amended filing came following an EGN examination of public records for the city’s participation in the Sacramento Chamber of Commerce’s annual Cap to Cap lobbying trip to Washington DC. In the last two years Scherman, along with fellow council members Jim Cooper, Gary Davis and Pat Hume participated in the trip.

While Davis and Cooper reported the gifts meals on their respective trips, neither Hume nor Scherman reported any on their 2009 lobbying trips. The California Fair Political Practices Commission requires meals received by officials not in conjunction with the official speaking or participating a panel discussion, be reported as gifts.

Typically, the party providing the meal provides the official with documentation

Hume attributed his failure to note the gift meals on his Economic Interests Statement because he miss-located the documents during a move of his office last year. Scherman has not said why she failed to document the gifts in her original filing.
