The Elk Grove-South County Democratic Club unanimously voted at their meeting on April 5, 2010, to support the removal of the 100-year floodplain from city of Elk Grove’s sphere of influence (SOI) application.

The city of Elk Grove is finalizing its application to present to the Sacramento Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo) for approval. The SOI application requests including the areas immediately south and southeast of the city of Elk Grove which currently includes the floodplain.

“The Elk Grove-South County Democratic Club has voted to endorse Elk Grove City Council member Gary Davis’ position for the removal of the floodplain from the City of Elk Grove’s proposed Sphere of Influence. It appears to be the most reasonable compromise to a very difficult proposal,” Club President Marilyn Flemmer said.

The Elk Grove City Council will hold a discussion on the SOI application at its April 14 meeting. The meeting is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm.

The club will also join with the Wilton Action Group (WAG) and the Elk Grove Coalition Advocating Proper Planning (EGCAPP) at the rally and press conference on April 14 beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the parking outside city hall.

The club encourages all Elk Grove, South County and Wilton residents who support the removal of the floodplain to attend this important rally and council meeting.
