Want To Guess What is Being Built Here? It Could Mean a Free Lunch

One of EGN's loyal readers pointed out this new construction activity. Any ideas where this is or what is being built?

That is not just a rhetorical question either - there is a prize involved for the lucky reader who can identify this project.

Here are a few hints:

*This site will be the second location in Elk Grove of the worlds largest retailer.
*This site was originally going to have a Target store located there.
*Said largest retailer tried to sneak around city zoning by using Target's approval.
*The imbroglio surrounding this retailers attempt to skirt the city's conditional use permit process contributed to former Elk Grove City Attorney Susan Cochran's termination of employment with the city.
*This giant retailer sells a dog food called "Ol' Roy" that is named after the founders dog, not Elk Grove's own "Old Roy" of the Elk Grove Citizen.

Any more clues needed?

Now for the rules and prize.

If you know who the retailer is that plans to pimp merchandise around-the-clock if they could in Elk Grove, send your answer to elkgrovenews@yahoo.com with "Contest" in the subject line. In case of multiple people submitting the correct answer, a drawing will be held to determine the sole winner.

Now for the prize - a lunch with the entire staff of Elk Grove News. Elk Grove News will select the location of the meal - someplace in Elk Grove (locally owned preferably) that has some sort of coupon offer, you know, a two-for-one offer or something like that.

We admit we don't have the deep pockets of a multi-national corporate owned media conglomerate or the high-minded-stuffed-shirt-attitude of our city's 100-plus-year-old news outlet. We are just a squeaky little voice operating on a shoestring budget, but hey, a free lunch is a free lunch.

By the way, the prize has no cash value and all answers must be submitted by 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2012. The winner will be notified by email.

Good luck!

If this retailer's court appeal is won, then the City would have lost a good attorney in the name of a quick-to-fire Council trying to take political heat from the Madeira residents off their back.

EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OPINION. MINE IS, WHILE I HATE TO SEE ANYONE LOSE THEIR JOB, SHE WAS A DETRIMENT TO THE CITY AND TO THE CITY COUNSEL. SHE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.

S'pose your right...The more important issue is how the current people are working out--not the past.

Come on you'all, that was not the question.

My question would be...why do we have to guess what's going in? I thought the City had an ordinance that a sign had to be posted when any commercial development began on site. Where is it????

This retailer is not “prize worthy!” Too bad the city council didn’t have the foresight to put something in place when initially planning Maderia, “the jewel of Elk Grove.”

But history has taught us, the Elk Grove City Council is reactive, never proactive. Hence, all the lawsuits. How many times have we heard them say, “We never thought about that until this problem arose!” Now what do we do? Oh, too late. Sorry citizens, we goofed again!

And the lawyers get richer and the general fund and our city's reserves shrink even more!

Does anyone on the council know what they are doing? Does anyone on the city payroll know what they are doing? The answer is NO NO No and to the few that support them-- No as well
