Officers from the Elk Grove Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing Unit arrested eight suspects in a sting operation targeting adults who purchase alcohol for minors. The Decoy Shoulder Tap Operation took place on May 29, June 2 and June 26 at different locations within Elk Grove.

Under the program, a minor under the direct supervision of a peace officer will stand outside a liquor or convenience store and ask patrons to buy them alcohol. The minor indicates in some way he or she is underage and cannot purchase the alcohol.

If the adults agree to purchase alcohol, officers then arrest and cite them for furnishing alcohol to the minor. The penalty is a minimum fine of $1,000 and 24 hours of community service.

.

The police should be concentrating on street crime and armed robberies.

The State Alcoholic Beverage Control investigators are supposed to do the underage sales stings.

Time to concentrate on street crime and armed robberies before the city takes a turn into the dumper.
