When they meet next Wednesday night, the Elk Grove City Council will consider the purchase of a residence to provide additional transitional housing services.

Should the city council authorize the purchase of the residence located at 9200 Meadow Grove Drive for the proposed price of $410,000, it would be the second such acquisition to assist residents in need of transitional housing. The dwelling the city opened in April 2013, now known as Grace House, has not received any complaints from neighboring dwellings according to the staff report.

Part of the purchase is being funded by a Community Development Block Grant of $211,000 targeted specifically for transitional housing. The new dwelling, which has seven bedrooms and is located near transit and other services, has anticipated rehabilitation costs of $25,000.

As with Grace House, Sacramento Self-Help Housing and PATH plan to organize volunteer efforts to improve the backyard, including installation of a play area. These organizations and other private donors will also provide furnishings and appliances for the house. Sacramento Self-Help Housing will be responsible for maintaining the exterior and the front yard in excellent condition year-round.

Next Wednesday's meeting starts at 6 p.m.

Commenting on what you say a "transitional house" ~ would that be a house for those who come out of prison(parole)with no where to turn? Or, would this "transitional house" be for juvenile sex offenders and if so, what category would they be in? The citizens of Elk Grove usually approve from the way it's worded without them ever knowing what this "transitional house" is or whom it's really intended for. If it's a house for sex offenders either juvenile or adult and you know and the public doesn't ~ that's not fair.
