Pre-opening of 60th Annual Elk Grove Western Festival Marred by Youth Fighting, Attacks

As happened in the past, the evening before the 60th annual Elk Grove Western Festival was marred by numerous attacks and fights involving juveniles in the area near the Elk Grove Regional Park.

On the evening of Friday, May 5, Elk Grove Police responded to several attacks that happened in the vicinity of the park.

The first incident happened at 8:45 p.m. on the 9900 block of Elk Grove-Florin when an individual was surrounded by several juveniles who punched and kicked him. After fleeing, the gang again attacked the victim by punching and kicking him in the head. 

The victim suffered minor injuries. Police continue the investigation of this attack.

The second reported incident also happen in the 9900 block of Elk Grove-Florin Road 15 minutes later. In this incident, the victim was walking down the street when he was confronted by four to six unknown male suspects. 

One of the suspects pushed the victim from behind for an unknown reason and another suspect then picked up the victim and threw him to the ground. When the victim attempted to get up, the suspects began punching him. 

The suspects eventually ran away in an unknown direction. Responding officers were unable to locate the suspects.

The third incident, at roughly the same location as the first two happened at 10 p.m. In this incident, the lone victim was again attacked by by four unknown suspects who demanded his property.

After refusing to comply with the demands, the victim was thrown to the ground and was subject to punching and kicking. The victim complained of pain was was taken to an area hospital for treatment.  
The final incident that occurred in the 9900 block of Elk Grove-Florin Road resulted in the arrest of a 14-year old girl after she allegedly tried to instigate a fight and obstructed traffic. Officers observed her and when they made contact, she allegedly was belligerent and tried striking an officer.

After a brief struggle, the suspect was restrained an placed in the back seat of a patrol car where she allegedly kick out a window. After being medically cleared, she was booked into juvenile hall and charged with assault on an officer, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest, and pedestrian failure to yield.

Hah, maybe we need a program that would help the youth of this community let off some of that angsty steam.
