August 2, 2017 |

An Elk Grove man is in custody at the Sacramento County Jail after he allegedly stabbed his mother and stole her vehicle.

Shortly after 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 1, Ryan Duncan Gillespie, 24, was in a vehicle with his mother when they engaged in an argument. Things escalated and the mother stopped the vehicle near Bruceville Road and Laguna Boulevard and exited.

Upon her exit, the Gillespie engaged in a confrontation and allegedly stabbed his mother in the shoulder with a small knife, and then drove away in the vehicle. The mother was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Gillespie was located later that morning near his residence and was arrested. The suspect will be arraigned on Thursday, August 3 and is being held on $100,000 bail for assault with a deadly weapon and carjacking.
