Below is a podcast interview with longtime Elk Grove resident Jim Kelly. Currently a signature gathering effort led by Kelly is underway in Elk Grove California to qualify an initiative for the 2018 ballot.

If successful in placing the initiative on the ballot, Elk Grove voters will be able to vote on how they wish to be represented.

In this podcast, Kelly describes the differences between from district and by district representation, the ways aside from the initiative process the city can switch to a by-district form of representation, and the reasons for this effort.

This podcast was recorded on Sunday, October 29.

Kelly can be contacted via email: bydistrict  @ frontier.com or j.kelly @ frontiernet.net

So Pat Hume was an unresponsive Elk Grove City Councilman causing Jim Kelly to take action? No surprise there! Pat Hume is the developer’s councilman first and foremost and is beholding, like the others, solely to their campaign contributions and their projects.

Let’s face it, Detrick, Hume, Suen, and even Nguyen are afraid of by district voting because that means there is a good chance they could be voted out. So, in essence, it is all about them, not what the public wants, and they are truly afraid.

If they were secure in their own districts, and the job they are doing, they would change the voting to by district by passing an ordinance as the law allows, or at the very least, let the voters decide.

Another issue, Hume is going for his 4th term! 16 years on the Elk Grove City Council! Term limits anyone?
