November 12, 2017 |

During the next monthly meeting of the Elk Grove-South County Democratic Club, members will be asked to vote on officers for 2018.

Among the club members that have been advanced by the nominating committee are Bob Irelan, secretary; Nancy Fox, treasurer; Scott Matsumoto, vice president; and Kendra Lewis, president. Unless a floor nomination is advanced, all of the nominees are expected to hold office during next year's crucial elections.

Also on the agenda will be a discussion on the direction club members want to steer the organization. In the last year club members have expressed their desire to tighten endorsement requirements.

In 2016 the club endorsed local Democratic candidates, but some of those same candidates not only did not endorse fellow Democratic candidates, they endorsed their Republican opponents. Several club members were miffed at Democratic Elk Grove City Council Member Darren Suen when he did not endorse fellow party member Maureen Craft, but instead offered support for her opponent, incumbent and Republican Council Member Steve Detrick.

Additionally, several members have expressed interest in the club taking more proactive stances on issues such as the aforementioned cross party endorsements, and by-district Elk Grove council districts.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 14, at the Elk Grove Public Library. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.
