Video Thanksgiving Greetings From EGN - Time For Gravy Boat Diplomacy?

November 23, 2017 |

Here is a hearty thank you to all the contributors and especially our readers - both our long-term readers and those new to this site. We are thankful for all!

It is no secret that conversations over Thanksgiving dinner can sometimes become an exercise in diplomacy even in the best of times. Given the hyper-partisan nature that our country finds itself in this year, sometimes our instincts can get the better of us.

With this in mind, we have a suggestion should you find the conversation veering in a direction that might get you through to that dessert of the pumpkin or bourbon chocolate pecan pie. We all have heard of gunboat diplomacy - the act of beating someone into submission by a constant bombardment.

Instead of deploying that technique, we instead propose that if an awkward situation arises, implement some gravy boat diplomacy. Instead of bombarding your foil with whatever your beliefs are, indulge in another helping of turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing, topped off with a hefty serving of gravy - that combination of starch, heavy gravy and the tryptophan from the turkey might just induce an immediate slumber.

If that doesn't do the trick, these tips from PBS' News Hour might be a better guide (see above, click to enlarge). In any case, we hope you have an enjoyable day and, at the risk of needing a dose of our gravy boat diplomacy, we hope you enjoy our video.

And, oh yes, turkeys cannot fly!
