Suspected Shoplifting Elk Grove Mother Leaves Child in Store, Arrested on Child Endangerment Charges

February 22, 2018 |

An Elk Grove woman remains in custody at the Sacramento County Jail after a shoplifting incident led to the endangerment of her children.

According to Elk Grove Police, Vera Inez Henry, 39, who had two children with her, was allegedly observed shoplifting at the Dollar Tree store on Elk Grove Boulevard. After being confronted by store personnel, Henry fled the store on foot with one of her children but left the other one in the store.

A short time later, the child that had fled returned to the store to retrieve the child left behind. Henry and her two children were seen by responding officers running across the road.

Henry was stopped by officers, detained, and placed under arrest for petty larceny and child endangerment. The children were left in the custody of their father.

Arraignment is scheduled for a court appearance on March 7.
