Probationer Allegedly Tries Passing Phony Money at Elk Grove Business, Gets Arrested

A Sacramento man who is on probation is in custody at the county jail after trying to pass fake money at an Elk Grove business.

According to Elk Grove Police, Alwin Santiago, 41, of Sacramento allegedly tried making a purchase at a business on the 9100 block of West Stockton Boulevard with counterfeit money just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15. After being alerted, police officers contacted Santiago in the parking lot.

A record search revealed Santiago was on probation, and a subsequent search led to the discovery of the fake money. Additionally, officers found a controlled substance on the suspect.

Santiago was arrested and is held on one misdemeanor and two felony charges with bail set at $80,000. Arraignment is scheduled for Friday, February 16.
