As Second Highest Paid Elk Grove Employee, City Attorney Shows Fondness For Kings Tickets, Golf, Meals

March 7, 2018 |

As Elk Grove's second-highest paid public employee, city attorney Jonathan Hobbs is open to accepting Lagniappe along the way. This information was revealed in Hobbs' annual statement of economic interest filed with the California Fair Political Practices Commission.

Hobbs, who was previously a contract attorney for the city but hired as a full-time employee in May 2016 reported the receipt of 11 gifts from three different entities in 2017. Those gifts included tickets to Sacramento Kings games, golf, lunches, dinners and a restaurant gift card.

Seven of the gifts came from Hobbs' former employer, the Sacramento-based law firm of Kronick, Moskovitz, Tiedemann, and Girard. The gifts from the firm included two lunches, four dinners, and a golf outing.

When Hobbs was a contract attorney for the city, he was employed by Kronick Moskovitz. Hobbs also continues to funnel legal work for Elk Grove to his former employer.

Haney Biz of Rockin, California gifted Hobbs tickets to the Sacramento Kings valued at $200 while the Sacramento-based Thomas Law Group also gave tickets priced at $100. The City of Lincoln, California, where Hobbs also acted as their city attorney though his then employment at Kronick Moskovitz, bought Hobbs a dinner and gave him a $50 gift card to Fat's Restaurant.

Hobbs current salary is $250,000, and in the last complete reporting year of 2016, where he worked for the city for slightly more than seven months, his benefits were valued at $37,000.

Quid pro quos? How many city of Elk Grove lawsuits has Hobbs sent Kronick's way courtesy of the taxpayers' money?
