Seizing on Sac Bee Story, Schubert Blasts Phillips' 'Sexist' Email Exchange

May 22, 2018 |

Not long after a story was published earlier this afternoon by the Sacramento Bee, Sacramento County District Attorney Ann Marie Schubert took to email blasting her opponent in the June 5 election for the DA position, Sacramento County Deputy District Attorney Noah Phillips.

According to the story by Bee columnist Marcos Breton and reporter Darrell Smith, Phillips knowingly received an email at his work address that contained sexist and racist material. The email in question reportedly came from a relative of Phillips.

The contents of the email, which can be seen in the Bee video posted below, showed dating "traits" of several women across a variety of racial and ethnic groups were outlined. The Bee reports the emails came from an unnamed source and were part of a document release on an investigation of an alleged prosecutorial misconduct investigation.

Shortly after the story was posted, Schubert's campaign sent a mass ICYMI email highlighting the Bee story. For his part, in the Bee story, Phillips characterized the move a campaign dirty trick, and that his email had been hacked.

The damaging part for Philips is the admission in the original email that is was a permissible use of email to receive the content saying "This is work appropriate and for that matter appropriate anywhere! Ah the luck of the Irish!!"
