June 14, 2018 |

Thanks to a surveillance video and the investigative work of an Elk Grove Police Department detective, a burglary suspect was taken into custody.

Tyler James Waters, 24, of Elk Grove was arrested on Wednesday, June 13 on suspicion of burglarizing a house on Oglethorpe Way in the Hampton Village neighborhood on Thursday, June 4. A video camera from a neighbor's residence recorded the daytime theft showing Waters driving off with a gun safe and other property that had been stolen from the residence's garage.

After the video was posted on social media, a detective from the department's Streets Crime Unit was able to track down the vehicle and the suspect. Waters was arrested for the theft, violation of probation, and misdemeanor drug charges and is being held at the Sacramento County Jail.

Arraignment will be on Friday, June 15.
