Callers flood Elk Grove Police dispatch during storm, power outage

During last night's storm that hit Elk Grove and the greater Sacramento area, many Elk Grove residents lost their electricity. Power outages occurred just before 7 p.m.

Among the many resources powerless residents tapped last night was Elk Grove Police. According to information posted on social media, in a two-hour span the police dispatch operators handled 265 calls.

Those calls, some of which were duplicates, resulted in 80 calls for service. Among the calls, six were for vehicle collisions, several for sparking power lines, and downed trees.

Although most power has been restored, police advise those still affected to contact SMUD. As off 1 p.m., there SMUD reports 5,425 customers without power, including 224 in Elk Grove, all of which are on the city's east side.
