Defendant convicted of kidnapping, rape of Cosumnes River College student



A man charged with kidnapping with the intent to commit rape was convicted this morning in a jury trial at Sacramento Superior Court. 

Raphael Garcia was also convicted to on two counts of sexual penetration, attempted rape, and lewd acts with a minor. On October 26, 2015, Garcia dragged a female Cosumnes River College student into a men’s bathroom on campus and sexually assaulted her. 

The next day, in a separate incident Garcia touched and sexually propositioned a 15-year-old high school student near the same campus. Los Rios and Sacramento police were able to Garcia to these crimes through DNA evidence and the quick-thinking 15-year-old victim, who took a photo of Garcia with her cell phone. 

Sentencing will be on February 4 and Garcia faces a maximum sentence of 27 years to life in prison.
