Suspect held on arson charges after allegedly trying to start Elk Grove grass fire

An Elk Grove man is in custody after he allegedly tried to start a grass fire.

On the early evening hours of Sunday, June 9, Elk Grove Police responded to a call regarding a person light grass on fire at the canal located near  Lotus Pond Way and Mclean Drive in Elk Grove's East Franklin neighborhood. Responding officers found Jimmy Ching, 26, who was fleeing the area.

After detaining Ching, it was learned he was on probation. Ching is held on arson charges at the county jail and will be arraigned on Tuesday, June 11.
