Videos - Elk Grove City Council hears report on Stonelake, Laguna West flood risks; resident questions wisdom of building hospital in flood plain

Last night the Elk Grove City Council heard a report that may have far-reaching implications. The report was from an outside, independent engineer that explained the risks posed by the city's existing levees and the cost for needed upgrades.

The report has implications for neighborhoods in the city's far west side that are in the flood plain. Additionally, California Northstate Unversity is pursuing a 400-bed trauma hospital in the same 200-year flood zone.

The first video features comments from an Elk Grove resident who questions the wisdom of building a hospital that could find itself inundated under several feet of water.

The second video is the entire agenda item from the meeting including the engineering report, public comments, and council discussions.
