A Folsom man is being held at the Sacramento County Jail after he allegedly pointed and attempted to fire a gun at a Folsom Police officer.

The incident started just after 1 p.m. today after officers responded to a shoplifting call on the 1000 block of Riley Street. When officers contacted Jason Karl Knapp (pictured below), 29, he became combative and resisted detention.

As the struggled ensued, Knapp pulled a gun on the officers, pointed it their direction, and pulled the trigger. The gun was loaded but, due to the violent struggle, the gun had jammed and did not fire.

Officers were able to disarm Knapp after a taser was deployed.  Knapp was transported to a local area hospital for minor injuries and the officers were treated for injuries. A search of Knapp's vehicle led to the discovery of cocaine

Knapp is charged with attempted murder, possession of a controlled substance, and for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Arraignment is on Thursday, August 22.
