Elk Grove Mayor Steve Ly records strong, broad-based fundraising for 2020 reelection campaign



In his state-mandated semi-annual report filed with the Elk Grove city clerk's office, Mayor Steve Ly recorded strong fundraising efforts. For the period ending June 30, Ly reported cash donations of $66,949 and an additional $3,455 in non-monetary contributions. 

Labor contributors:

  • Northern Calif. Carpenters Regional Council - $1,000
  • Operating Engineers Local Union 8 - $500
  • Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 447 - $2,500
  • Sheet Metal Workers' Intl. Local 104 - $3,500
Medical interests:
  • Calif. Heart Medical Associates, Fresno - $6,000
  • Alvin Cheung, President Christopher Newport University* - $4,000
  • Dr. Gordon Wong, Sacramento - $1,000
  • Wu and Pan Medical Associates, Sacramento - $500 
  • Dr. Quinn Li, Granite Bay - $200
Real estate-development interests:
  • Gilbert Albiani - $100
  • Chrysanthy T. Demo Investments - $5,000
  • Laguna Creek Land Holdings - $1,000
  • Laguna Gateway Phase 2 - $3,000
  • Taylor Morrison of California - $2,500

Ly also received an individual contribution of $1,600 from Te Lam Vi who is described as an auditor, "federal department of the interior." The largest non-monetary contribution came from California Northstate University of $1,200 for room rental fee and $275 for beverages from McConnel Estates Winery.

Among Ly's largest expenses were $1,978 to the Los Angeles-based law firm Nossaman, LLP, and seven credit card payments of $8,182 for unspecified items.  

At the end of the reporting period, Ly has $102,955 for his 2020 reelection or other campaigns.

We are unable to verify if Cheung is President of Virginia-based Christopher Newport University as described in Ly's report.
