UPDATED - Elk Grove Diversity and Inclusion Commission member appears on NetFlix' Patriot Act episode

Hassan Minhaj, left, after being kicked out of the Howdy Modi event in Houston and on the stage for his show The Patriot Act. |

It is always interesting to see a person from your region succeed at the highest levels in professions like sports, medicine, politics, or entertainment. That is certainly the case with Davis, California native Hassan Minhaj, especially when some aspect of Elk Grove is included.

An alum of Comedy Central's The Daily Show, Minhaj now hosts his show on Netflix called The Patriot Act. Much like The Daily Show, The Patriot Act uses comedy to address social issues and current news.

On the most recent edition titled Don't Ignore the Asian Vote in 2020, which started airing today, Minhaj discusses the growing influence of Asian-Americans on domestic politics. As part of the episode examing this trend, Minhaj also dips his toes into Indian politics, specifically the relationship between President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narenda Modi.

In the segment on the recently organized Howdy Modi rally in Houston, Minhaj interviewed an Elk Grove resident, Dr. Bhavin K. Parikh who also is a member of Elk Grove's Diversity and Inclusion Commission. Parikh and Minhaj are in the interview portion where Sacramento is referenced.

A video of the episode is below (contains some vulgarity) and in the last seven minutes Elk Grove's connection will be found, but the entire program is worth watching.
