Elk Grove man arrested by police for accidentally shooting himself, hitting nearby residence



A man who suffered an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound was arrested by Elk Grove Police.

Just after 9 am on Sunday, April 5 Elk Grove Police responded to an area hospital regarding a gunshot wound to the hand of Manokoun Thephalak, 35, of Elk Grove. Through their investigation, police allege that Manokoun was impaired earlier that morning at a residence on the 5300 block of Laguna Springs Drive and discharged a round from a firearm that injured his hand.

At the time of the gunshot, there were children in the residence, and the round that was fired traveled into a neighboring residence. There were no other injuries.

Thephalak was arrested on felony child endangerment discharging a gun in a negligent manner and remains in custody at the county jail on $50,000 bail. Arraignment is on Tuesday, April 7.
