UPDATED 4:30 a.m. May 2

A motorcycle passenger was killed and the driver suffered major injuries in a collision with a pickup truck this morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol South Sacramento field office, officers arrived at the scene at 5:20 a.m. on southbound Hwy. 99 just south of U.S. 50 and found the motorcycle driver in the lane not moving. The passenger was found under the Ford F-150.

The initial investigation suggests the motorcycle moved from number three to number two lane ahead of the F-150 at which time it was struck. Speed is believed to have played a role in the collision.

The female passenger was pronounced deceased on the scene. The male driver, who the CHP identified as a 42-year old male from Elk Grove, was taken to U.C. Davis Medical Center with major injuries.

The driver of the vehicle is operating with CHP investigators. Neither alcohol or drug use is believed to have contributed to the collision which continues to be investigated.

In their notification, the CHP noted since the implementation of shelter-in-place orders were enacted, there has been an increase is speeding on highways.

The identity of the passenger will be released by the Sacramento Coroner's office.

UPDATE: The Sacramento County Coroner's Office has identified the accident victim as Leslie Jean Daniel, 41, of Watsonville, Calif.
