Elk Grove-South County Democratic Club holds caravan, GOTV event for their endorsed candidates

This morning the Elk Grove South-County Democratic Club held a get out the vote event meant to highlight candidates they have endorsed for several local elections.

The event was held in Elk Grove and highlighted the candidacies of Elk Grove Mayor Steve Ly who is seeking his third two-year term, Elk Grove Unified School District Area 3 candidate Sean Yang and Elk Grove city council candidates Ali Moua and Maureen Craft. Moua is challenging incumbent Darren Suen in District 1 and Craft is one of five candidates in the race for the District 3 open seat.

The motor caravans started at three locations in Elk Grove and met at the post office on Longleaf Drive. The purpose of the caravan was not only to support the club's slate of Democratic candidates but to encourage early mail-in voting which is being done statewide because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Each of the four candidates endorsed by the club are in competitive races, and in some cases are running against fellow Democrats. The most competitive of these races has been the mayoral race.

As part of his strategy, Ly appears to be focusing his efforts on associating his campaign with the larger Democratic Party who enjoys a distinct registration advantage in Elk Grove. His main challenger, fellow Democrat Bobbie Singh-Allen, based in part on her online advertising, seems to be focusing on winning enough Republican and independent voters to push her across the finish line. 

While not highlighting her Democratic Party membership, Singh-Allen has gained endorsements from prominent Democratic officeholders. Among those are Rep. Ami Bera and Assemblymember Jim Cooper.

After the caravan, Ly held a fundraiser and gathering at his campaign office on West Stockton Boulevard at the Marketplace 99 shopping center. As he has in the past, Ly had a large cadre of volunteers processing literature for doorknob delivery. 

As part of the literature being prepared by volunteers was a mailer paid for by the Ly campaign that featured his candidacy, as well as Craft, Moua, and Elk Grove Unified School District Incumbent Trustee Tony Perez who is being challenged by fellow Democrat Regina Banks (see below). Five of the seven candidates on the piece includes the seal of the Elk Grove-South County Democratic Club indicating the group's endorsement.

Many of the volunteers working at Ly's campaign office were stapling small bottles of hand disinfectant to the endorsement piece. One fixture of Ly's last several campaigns has been the distribution of small gifts to voters.
