Latest map for 7th Congressional District mostly contained in Sacramento County, includes West Sacramento

The latest Congressional maps released by the California Citizens Redistricting Commission show the boundaries for what is currently the 7th District would continue to be mostly contained in Sacramento County, albeit with different areas.  The District is represented by Dr. Ami Bera, who will seek his sixth term representing the District.

The new configuration of the District will remove northern portions of the District in Citrus Heights, Folson, Orangevale, Arden-Arcade, Rancho Cordova and Carmichael. Instead, the district map now includes West Sacramento in Yolo County, Downtown and midtown Sacramento south to the county's southern border including Elk Grove and Galt District, and all southern and Delta portions of Sacramento County.

Aside from the geographic adjustments, the most significant change to the district is the racial composition.  The new ethnic composition in percentages is as follows:

Whites drop to 41.9 from 50.9; non-white Hispanics increase from 17.4 to 24.4; Blacks increase from 7.06 to 12.8; Asians increase from 17.4 to 21.1.*

*Current ethnic composition based on 2018 data from DATAUSA.
