Juvenile suspect in custody for Elk Grove hit and run pedestrian fatality

Elk Grove Police announced that a 17-year old male is in custody after he surrendered following a fatal pedestrian hit and run collision last night.

According to police, the alleged driver of the vehicle who hit and killed a 53-year old male went to the police station a few hours after he fled the collision scene on Elk Grove Boulevard and Shorelake Drive on the city's west side. The victim was crossing Elk Grove Boulevard when he was struck and killed.

The driver went to the police department after a passenger in the vehicle was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and was later contacted by police.

The cause of the collision is under investigation. Alcohol or drugs were not factors; however, speed was.

The driver was arrested and booked into custody at Juvenile Hall on charges of Vehicular Manslaughter (Penal Code 192(c)), Hit and Run resulting in Death (Penal Code 20001 (b)(2)), and Hit and Run resulting in Injury (Penal Code 20001 (a)).

The identification of the deceased will be made by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to call the Elk Grove Police Department Traffic Bureau at (916) 478-8148.
