Independent committee assisting Nguyen's 10th Assembly candidacy target API voters, emphasize public safety

In the completive 10th District California Assembly race, an independent committee supporting one of the four Democratic candidates has focused recent efforts on the Asian Pacific Islander voters while emphasizing public safety concerns.

The Asian Pacific Islander Leadership PAC appears to have sent one of its mailers to API voters exclusively highlighting Nguyen's role as the executive director of Sacramento-based Asian resources Inc. In that role, the mailer reminds API voters of her role in that organization and her community ties.

The other mailer focuses on public safety with the headline "Our safety is at risk." Nguyen, who is pictured with her husband, an Elk Grove Police offer, is endorsed by leading law enforcement agencies.

It could not be verified if the mailer was sent to all voters in the 10th California Assembly district. With Eric Rigard as the only Republican in the five-candidate race, emphasizing law enforcement credentials could expand Nguyen's appeal beyond traditional Democratic constituencies.

Both mailers disclose funding was provided by PG& E and the California Correctional Peace Officers Association.
