Cooper, Leary often late, absent

If members of the Elk Grove City Council were given a private-sector job performance review, in the category of attendance and punctuality at city council meetings over the last 52 weeks, three or four members would be skating on thin ice with their employers.

The analysis was based on 42 regular and special city council meeting between June 13, 2007 and May 28, 2008.

Council member Jim Cooper had the worst overall attendance record being late or absent for 13 (30%) of the meetings. Cooper missed eight (19%) meetings.

Council member Mike Leary fared only slightly better missing 7 (16%) meetings. Although he was only late twice, his overall attendance record was second worst coming in at 21%

Although Patrick Hume missed only two meetings, his overall attendance record of 21% matched Leary’s based on being late seven (16%) of the time.

While Mayor Gary Davis missed only three of the 42 meeting, his overall attendance (16%) record was brought down due to poor punctuality. He was late on four occasions.

Sophia Scherman had the best overall attendance record amongst the five members. Scherman missed three meetings and had a perfect record for punctuality. Her overall attendance was 7%.
