Cops shoot pit pull on the loose

Elk Grove police shot and killed a pit bull yesterday morning that was attacking residents near Winterberry Dr. and Dianthus Way.

The incident started when two large loose pit bulls where chasing several neighborhood residents. The pair of dogs had also reportedly forced their way into a backyard and brutally attacked another dog.

While attempting to gain control of the canines, one of the dogs charged an officer who then shot and killed one of the pit bulls. The other dog was later captured by animal control officers.

The dogs owner was not identified by police.

Although aggressive trained pit bulls are commonly identified with drug dealers, police said there was nothing indicating the dogs were used for such purposes.
