Construction spending lowest since 2001

For the week ending August 29, the number of pages of foreclosure ads in the Elk Grove Citizen continued it's downward trend. This could be an early indicator that the rate of foreclosure in Elk Grove is decreasing.

Separately, it was reported by the U.S. Commerce Department today that residential construction hit a seven year low. Construction spending dropped 0.6% in July, twice what was expected.

Although the construction decline is a negative for the larger economy, it does have a silver lining. Less new home construction can help reduce the excess in housing inventory which can lead to price stabilization.
