The Elk Grove Community Assistance Program (EGCAN), which includes the food bank, needs our help this Thanksgiving season. As you can well imagine, with today's economy, many more of our fellow citizens are in need of assistance.

According to EGCAN Executive Director Marie Jachino, "We served an estimated 27,691 people from November 2007 through October 2008. Our greatest increase has been with seniors and children. More than 100 additional households have signed up each month for emergency food since July. The needs are urgent -- deserving of the involvement of each and every one of us."

So we are sending out an SOS for a turkey drive for EGCAN. EGCAN will begin handing out turkeys on Tuesday, November 25 beginning at 10:30 a.m. They expect to run out in one half hour unless we can get more turkeys and trimmings delivered to them beforehand. They also need volunteers to help on Tuesday morning.

This is where our hearts that connects us all to our community is felt the most, when we all come together. If you can donate a turkey or two, or some trimmings, please do so. EGCAN is located behind the CCSD Administrative Offices on Elk Grove Blvd.

Please join members of our Elk Grove City Council on Tuesday morning and side by side we will give another meaning our city's mantra "Proud Heritage, Bright Future."

Please forward this email to members of your homeowner/association group and please ask them for their help as well. For on the smiles of those to whom give thanks for our small gesture of community giving, we build up our neighbors philosophy of life.
