Leary spanked; lesson in his loss for Cooper, Scherman

Elk Grove city council member MIke Leary has gone the way of former council member Dan Briggs - thrown in the Elk Grove's new but dubious trash heap.

With all precincts reporting, Steve Detrick slapped Leary by an almost two-to-one margin. Detrick ran a disciplined campaign that exploited Leary's connections to real estate developers and highlighted Detrick's advocacy for controlled growth.

Leary on the other hand ran a campaign dominated by big money donors like William Niemi, Lux Taylor and the California Builders Association. Like Briggs, Leary seems to have thought he could run on his 'good' reputation.

While Detrick was running hard, Leary was skulking. So long Mike, perhaps you can now find one of those 10,000 jobs you created.
