Captures less than 50% of popular vote

Incumbent Republican Dan Lungren beat Democrat challenger Bill Durston to retain his seat for the third district of the U.S. Congress.

While Lungren will return to the hill, he goes back to having won only 49% of the popular vote. Durston garnered 44% and third party candidates 7%.

In a safely drawn Republican district, Lungren should have won by a larger percentage. Lungren will probably think twice about taking another lobbyist paid winter time junket.
