Press release From Elk Grove Police

ELK GROVE, CA – On January 27, 2009 at 12:09 p.m., the Elk Grove Police Department responded to a bank robbery that had just occurred at the Bank of America located inside the Save Mart Grocery Store located at 7007 Laguna Blvd.

An unidentified male approached a Bank of America teller and handed him a note demanding money. The suspect then handed the teller a dark colored bag and instructed him to place the money inside the bag. The teller complied with the suspect’s demands and placed an undisclosed amount of currency inside the bag. The suspect then fled the store with the money.

The subject was described as a black male adult, 20 to 30 years of age with short hair. The suspect was wearing a green baseball cap, dark colored hooded sweatshirt, and black t-shirt with dark colored pants.

Officers obtained information that the suspect was possibly in the area of Starburst Way and Sunnyfield Way in the City of Sacramento. With the assistance of the Sacramento Police Department and the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department several locations in the area were searched.

Officers detained 20-year-old Donnell Slaughter as he exited a residence in the 6500 block of Sunnyfield Way. Officers obtained a surveillance photo from the bank and confirmed that Slaughter matched the photograph of the bank robbery suspect. A search of Slaughter’s residence led to the discovery of several pieces of evidence linking him to the bank robbery including the note and the stolen money. Based on the discovery of the evidence, Slaughter was arrested for Robbery (211 PC). At this time, a photograph of Slaughter is not available.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to call the Elk Grove Police Department Detective Bureau at (916) 478-8060.
