Elk Grove, CA – The City of Elk Grove Charter Commission and Elk Grove Community Connection (EGCC) are teaming up for a workshop to explore the community’s vision for the City’s potential new charter, which the Commission is currently drafting. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 24, at Elk Grove City Hall (Council Chambers, 8400 Laguna Palms Way). The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., with an informal mixer scheduled beforehand at 6:00 p.m.

Public participation and input is at the heart of the process in drafting the City’s potential new governing charter. This historical process will involve exploring issues such as election reform, an elected Mayor, number of council districts, campaign finance, bidding of public works projects, and more. If approved by the City Council, the charter will go before voters in November 2010.

“This is an exciting time for Elk Grove, as our citizens have the opportunity to have a real say in how we want to run our City,” said Charter Commission Chair, Jake Allen. “As Commissioners, we strongly encourage input from the public. We don’t want to draft this charter on our own; it needs to be a reflection of how our community wants to see the City work. Ultimately, we hope this charter is something we all can be proud of.”

Adds Linda Ford, EGCC media spokesperson, “EGCC Summits are put on by citizens for citizens. Nothing is more important to our city’s future than the being involved in the charter process. We encourage everyone to attend this important meeting.”

The workshop agenda will include a presentation by Jake Allen, followed by a question and answer session and live polling to gauge the community’s specific preferences for various components of the charter.
