ELK GROVE, CA – The Elk Grove City Council is in the midst of a strategic planning process to identify five-year goals for the City of Elk Grove.

The Elk Grove City Council held Special City Council Meetings on Friday, February 27 and Saturday, February 28 to discuss overarching goals for the future, and determine priorities for the upcoming Fiscal Year 2009-10 budget.

After extensive discussion, the City Council identified the following priorities:

* Grow and support safe, liveable, attractive neighborhoods
* Develop an efficient and effective City organization with regional perspective
* Promote Elk Grove as a recreational and cultural center that attracts visitors
* Serve as wise, responsible stewards of fiscal resources
* Create a vibrant, diversified economy

“While the City of Elk Grove is facing leaner fiscal times, it’s more important than ever for the City Council to share a laser sharp vision for the future of this community,” said Mayor Pat Hume. “These short term and long term goals will serve as a framework for the upcoming fiscal year, and will guide decisions that impact this community over many years.”

Staff will prepare a report summarizing the Council’s draft goals and objectives, which will be brought to the Council for review on March 25. Once available, the public is highly encouraged to review the report, and provide public feedback at the March 25 City Council meeting. Once adopted, the goals and objectives will be incorporated in the Fiscal Year 09-10 budget.
