Weather, not funding stalls completion of Sheldon Rd. - Hwy 99 interchange
While the wet weather the North Sate is experiencing is welcome, it is not without some detriment. For drivers in Elk Grove, the weather has stalled the construction of the Sheldon Rd. - Hwy. 99 interchange on the city's north side.
The long awaited interchange upgrade started last spring and was showing steady progress until the wet weather arrived. Funded by local development fees, federal highway funds and state bond money, the city has continued funding whiles it awaits reimbursement from the state.
According to Elk Grove city public information officer Christine Brainerd, the city has submitted an invoice to the state and is expecting payment within a month.
"At this time, we are not aware of anything within the State’s operating practices that would prevent us from receiving this payment now that the budget has passed," Brainerd said.
