I hope that you will post this and let the citizens of Elk Grove know that their property rights are under attack AGAIN by the Planning Commission. This coming Thursday, June 18, 2009 the Commission will consider several amendments to the Zoning Code.

Two of the most odious are:

1.) Expansion of the Clear Vision Triangle for corner properties. This will potentially place citizens' fences and landscaping in jeopardy. Additionally, the change will outlaw anything over 30 inches tell (fences, landscaping, etc.) within the this triangle or on either side of our driveways within 15 feet of the front sidewalk.

2.) NO accessory structures (sheds, etc.) located in our side yards or withing 6 feet of any other structure (fence, house, etc.) or within 3 feet of the side or rear property lines.

Here is the link to the Planning Department's staff report and recommendation to the Commission:

There is NOTHING MINOR about these changes. They expand Government's control and interference in our individual property rights!

Citizen's can make their voices heard by attending the Planning Commission hearing below on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 6:30 PM in the City Council chambers located at 8400 Laguna Palms Way.

Prior to the hearing the public should make their voices heard by emailing the Commissioners at:

BVILLANUEVA@ELKGROVECITY.ORG
NCHAIRES@ELKGROVECITY.ORG
FMAITA@ELKGROVECITY.ORG
GMURPHEY@ELKGROVECITY.ORG
FHARRIS@ELKGROVECITY.ORG

Citizens can call and voice their opposition:

Elk Grove Planning Department @ (916) 478-2265

Please help us fight these amendments!!!!!

While other agencies have similar ordinances they are used sparingly and only when there is an egregious violation. Elk Grove by comparison typically puts these sorts of regulations in place and then engages in city wide "enforcement sweeps" which are accompanied by much fanfare and a member of the City Council (usually the Mayor) standing in some poor saps front yard giving an interview on the am TV news. Anyone want to start a pool to see whose house Pat Hume will be standing in front of in a few months?
