The north and southbound entrance ramps at Laguna Boulevard in Elk Grove are closed because of a high speed pursuit that started in Stockton at approximately 2:30 am and ended with a fatal shooting.

According to CHP reports, the killed suspect did not stop after CHP officers attempted an enforcement stop a traffic violation near Center Street and Crosstown Freeway in Stockton.

During the pursuit on northbound I-5 speeds reached 100 m.p.h.

After exiting Laguna Boulevard, the suspect repeatedly rammed officer's car. Officers attempted to taser the suspect as he tried to escape. The suspect continued to ram his vehicle and officers, fearing for their own safety, fired their weapons hitting the suspect in the upper and lower part of his body.

Preliminary reports indicate there were no firearms found in the vehicle but there was narcotics parapharnalia.

The man appeared to be a Hispanic in his mid-30's and no identification was available. sacramento COunty Sheriff will investigate the shooting.

The ramps will be closed until 12:00 noon for the investigation.
