Lengthy agenda for sole November council meeting

The Elk Grove City Council will be asked to reverse a decision by the Planning Commission to allow a tattoo and body piercing salon at tonight’s special meeting.

Tonight’s agenda is particularly lengthy as it the only meeting of the council in November because of the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Among the items to be considered will be a request from the Old Town Elk Grove Foundation to reverse the October approval by the Elk Grove Planning Commission to approving a request from Capitol Ink Tattoo and Body Piercing to locate a shop at 9044 Elk Grove Boulevard. The city council could reverse the decision of the planning commission and deny the business a permit to open shop in Old Town.

The city will also receive several reports from the city staff which include a fiscal analysis of the first quarter fiscal results, a report on the city’s sphere of influence initiative and an appointment of a new city charter commission member amongst others.

Fiscal picture not looking to rosy

According to the staff fiscal report, sales tax revenues continue to decline in the face of the severe recession. The report states while revenue are at their lowest levels in five years and 29 percent last year’s first quarter.

However the report notes this dropped had been accounted for in the annual budget. Sales taxes are the single largest component of city revenue.

The regular meeting is scheduled to convene at 6:00 pm.
