The Bee article said Tommy went to the Elk Grove WalMart to get his posterboard and marker to make the sign. By default I assume these two items were made in China, or at least, they weren't made here in the U.S., and at the very least, not here in Elk Grove.
I don't suppose anyone else finds it odd that Tommy didn't have to pay a whole lot for his imported sign-making materials because he didn't have to pay an American or an Elk Grovian worker to make them, and likewise, nobody will need to hire Tommy, except, perhaps, WalMart, where he might somday land a job stocking pens and posterboards to the next round of unemployed Americans.
