Elk Grove resident Jimmie Johnson has filed a Candidate Intention Statement with the Elk Grove City Clerk’s office indicating he will run against incumbent Gary Davis for the District 4 seat.

Although Johnson has never held elected office, he did make an unsuccessful run for a seat on the Cosumnes Community Services District in 2008. In a race that had seven candidates for three seats, Johnson came in sixth place.

More recently Johnson was a member of the Elk Grove City Charter Commission. That commission, which disbanded last January, failed to draft a charter that was acceptable to the Elk Grove City Council and dissolved amidst conflicts with the city council. Johnson is also a current member of the city's Historic Preservation Committee.

According to his 2008 Smart Voter biography, Johnson holds a BA degree from Stanford University, A J.D. from University of California, Hastings College of Law and at that time employed as an associate attorney with Bell, McAndrews & Hiltachk, LLP, specializing in governmental law matters. According to state bar information, Johnson is now listed as being employed by the Sacramento firm of Rediger, McHugh & Owensby, LLP.

Why doesn't he move to District 1 and run against Sophia? Need to clean house first.
