Sutter Creek Voters Say No to Golf Course, Major Expansion

By the slimmest of margins, Sutter Creek, Calif. voters defeated a proposal that would have significantly expanded their city.

With all precincts reporting, Measure N lost by a mere 12 votes; 596 no votes versus 584 yes votes. The results do not include provisional and absentee ballots.

Had Measure N been approved, a 945-acre golf resort and up to 1,300 houses would have been approved for development. It would have doubled the size of the Gold rus era city.

Opponents of the expansion used Elk Grove as a poster child of development run amuck in their efforts to turn back the development.

This is wonderful news! A small gold country town will now save the flavor and being of their community, grounded by their personal efforts to save themselves from big development. It started in Elk Grove, now Sutter Creek, maybe more small towns will feel empowered to prevent further encroachment toward themselves. Thank you Elk Grove for being the "poster child" that spurred this rally by the citizens of Sutter Creek. Again, Bravo to them!
