After their traditional early August recess, the Elk Grove City Council will reconvene on Wednesday, August 25 and will make decisions on, among things, whether or not to allow more distribution of booze and if medical marijuana dispensaries should allowed within city limits.
On the booze side, the council will decide if the Walgreens store located at 9180 Franklin Boulevard should be granted a license to sell beer and wine. During an earlier hearing on the matter several area residence expressed various concerns about the sale of alcohol at this location.
On the grass side, the city council will be asked to adopt a staff recommendation prohibiting the establishment of medical marijuana dispensaries in Elk Grove. The report from City Attorney Susan Cochran and Elk Grove Police Chief Robert Lehner cite a study conducted by the California Police Chiefs Association outlining the negative impacts such establishments have on communities.
Wednesday's meeting starts at 6:00 p.m.

Should any council members who have or currently smoke pot (never mind the use of cocaine); or have had a DUI(s) recuse themselves because of a conflict of interest?
Ol' Sophie would rather leave cancer victims to suffer raqther than allow a medical marijuana dipensary in EG. Heartless. She and the others say, "They can just go up the road to Sacramento." Too bad they can't find a e-Tran of Paratransit ride anymore....
Very good HR and I assume that means this ordinary citizen gets to take a vacated seat/seats and run this city "for the people" rather than for their own private wallet. Oh darn.....alcohol & cocaine don't count and here I was spiffing up my wardrobe and practicing doubletalk. At what point can I expect the checks to start rolling in?
