With about 10 weeks to go before the November General election, Elk Grove Council member Gary Davis hosted a get together to mark the opening of his campaign office on Laguna Boulevard. Davis, who defeated incumbent Dan Briggs in 2006 to earn a seat on the council, is seeking his second four year term.
According to Davis' campaign manager Gabriel Medina, the event was meant to generate awareness of the reelection campaign. "We want to let people know we are here and open," Medina said.
Along with dozens of supporters, the event was attended by Consumnes Community Services District candidates Clifford Loveland and Doug McElroy. Another Davis supporter on hand was Elk Grove Vice Mayor Steve Detrick who said once Davis dropped out of the Democratic primary for Congress, he quickly endorsed the campaign.
"Once he left the that race, I was the first one to endorse him," Detrick said. "I really believe in what he brings to the table."
In his comments, Davis said he was humbled by their support and proud of his work towards bringing transparency to city government. Davis said making government more transparent was "most rewarding" and makes for a more effective city.
"We've turned around the attitude of city hall," he said.
Davis also said that if elected to another term he will continue to focus on job creation, making neighborhoods strong and safe and a continued to emphasis on neighborhood centered decision making.
"If we continue to keep city hall open and let residents in, we will continue to make better decisions," Davis added.
Davis faces former Elk Grove City Charter commissioner Jimmie Johnson and James White in the District 4 race.

He has a passion for helping the people of Elk Grove and he needs our help to ensure that he wins this race. The next few years offer a complex series of challenges and that will be possible if we have Gary Davis and George Murphey as two of our city council leaders. George Murphey faces city council member Pat Hume in this race and we are in DIRE NEED of change!!!!!!
