Elk Grove Vice Mayor Steve Detrick announced today that he is endorsing George Murphey's candidacy for the District 2 seat of the Elk Grove City Council. Murphey currently serves on the city's planning commission and is running against incumbent Pat Hume and Davies Ononiwu.
Detrick's announcement came in an e-mail that also acted as an invitation to a fund raiser for Murphey being held at Elk Grove's Lent Ranch, owned by Bob Lent, who has also endorsed Murphey. A fellow Elk Grove Rotary member with Hume, Lent endorsed and made financial contributions to Hume's successful candidacy in 2006 against incumbent Rick Soares.
According to court documents, Hume is currently in a relationship with Lent's former wife Lisa. Bob and Lisa Lent were divorced last year.

I know it's done all the time... but it still irkes me when elected officials use their office to endorse candidates in local elections. I like George and wish him well... but I wish the ones elected to represent ALL of us would refrain from expressing a political bias during election time.
