With less that a week-and-a-half before election day, the race for the District 2 seat on the Elk Grove City Council shows challenger George Murphey beating incumbent Pat Hume in what will determine the ultimate victor in the three way race - popular support.
Based on the most financial filings released this week, Murphey has garnered a far great number of donations from individual contributors that Hume. According to the documents, Murphey has received 14 donations from individuals compared to nine for Hume, four of which were from real estate developers.
In previous financial fillings, of greater significance is the fact that since entering the race Murphey has received several individual contributions from people who supported Hume in 2006 when he defeated Rick Soares. On the financial front Murphey has also been competitive raising $21,175.
With the race in the home stretch, Murphey, who has a strong ground game and sound financial resources, is well poised to oust Hume on November 2. After all, citizens make up the voting base, no real estate developers.
