Hometown Hero Award Recognizes Fundraising Efforts
Cosumnes Fire Department firefighter and paramedic Tianna Kearsing will be presented with an Elk Grove Rotary Club Hometown Hero Award at the Club’s May 18 meeting.
Kearsing is being recognized for her efforts over the past several years to raise money for the Firefighters Burn Institute through the Cosumnes Fire Department’s “Boot Drive.” This year’s Boot Drive, held March 19 and staffed by off-duty volunteer fire fighters, raised nearly $30,000 to help burn survivors with treatment and therapy, and to help fund a children’s burn-survivor summer camp.
The annual Elk Grove Rotary Club Hometown Hero awards go to fire, police, education, and military personnel who make a difference in the Elk Grove community. The May 18 meeting will take place at Vince’s Restaurant, 8901 Elk Grove Florin Road, Elk Grove.
“This is a well-deserved honor for Tianna, who spends hundreds of hours of her personal time working with other members of the Fire Department to coordinate the Boot Drive event each year,” said Tracey Hansen, Cosumnes Fire Department Chief.
Other 2011 Hometown Hero Award recipients include Tim McDougal, career technical educator at Cosumnes Oaks High School; Staff Sergeant Ryan Lucia, U.S. Air Force; and Elk Grove Police Officers Yusef Parker and Timothy Nichols.
“These award winners have gone above and beyond for our community in performing their public safety, education and military duties, and we’re glad to have the opportunity to publicly acknowledge their extraordinary efforts,” said Rotary Club program Co-chair Millie Brink.
